We are shocked and saddened by the findings of new research that shows the extent of climate anxiety and hopelessness in young people all over the world. We call on you to acknowledge this crisis of despair, and take urgent action by massively scaling up investments in renewable energy, keeping promises on climate finance, phasing out fossil fuels to cut carbon emissions in half by 2030, and putting half the Earth under protection to save biodiversity. It’s time to give hope back to our children.

Groundbreaking new research on climate anxiety funded by Avaaz has revealed something utterly shocking: all over the world, more than half of children and young people believe humanity is doomed.

The study is all over the media -- a stunning 75% of 10,000 children and young people asked across 10 countries say their future is ‘frightening’. Almost two thirds say they are ‘very’ or ‘extremely’ worried. Some are giving up hope completely.

This crisis of hopelessness is being driven by the failure of governments to take real action on the climate crisis. We can’t let our children down like this!
