Give hope back to our children

Dear world leaders:

One of the most devastating impacts of the climate crisis is on our children’s mental health.

A new study has shown that climate anxiety is affecting how they eat, sleep and play. More than half of those surveyed believe humanity is doomed. Four in ten fear having their own children.

This is on you. The study shows climate anxiety is linked to the failure of the world’s governments to take the necessary action to limit planetary warning to safe levels. It is an entirely rational response to a catastrophic political failure.

This must mark a turning point. Our demands are simple: Acknowledge our children’s suffering. Apologise for the global failure to act. Take urgent action to limit climate change to 1.5 degrees.

Yours sincerely,

Give hope back to our children
"Why should I want to live in this world that doesn't care?"

That’s the heartbreaking question one child asked when faced with the reality of government inaction on climate change. And they’re not alone.

Avaaz just funded the biggest ever study on climate anxiety in young people. In every country surveyed, it showed children’s anxiety is spiking and it's linked to feeling betrayed by governments for not acting on climate change!

It’s time for an honest reckoning with our politicians -- they are not just putting us on course for environmental and economic breakdown, they are threatening the mental health of our children.

A major climate summit is coming up at the United Nations in days, ahead of crunch talks hosted by the UK. Let’s build a massive open letter to world leaders, and we’ll take out ads in key capitals delivering the findings and demanding our leaders face our children, take responsibility for this crisis and act.
