A huge victory for Palestine - but we need to act

Co-op board members:

The Co-op has a long and proud history of doing the right thing: making ethical decisions in the produce they stock and sell. The vote to ban Israeli produce is just another example of Co-op members standing for peace and justice. Now, the board must follow through and implement it in full.

A huge victory for Palestine - but we need to act

This weekend saw a big and important victory for Palestine: the Co-op, with thousands of shops in every corner of the UK, voted - overwhelmingly - to remove Israeli products from its shelves.

The proposal came after 19 long months of war crimes and devastation in Palestine. But while Israel’s military bombs hospitals, schools, aid workers, and civilians, its economy - and its ability to carry out these massacres - is dependent on the revenue from exports, many of which are produced in illegal settlements in the West Bank.

During the 1980s, bans and embargoes on South African produce were pivotal in isolating and weakening Apartheid - and that’s why the Co-op voting to ban Israeli products is so important. But it’s not over yet - the vote was non-binding, and the board will be under intense pressure to ignore it.

That’s where we come in. Will you sign the open letter to Co-op bosses, celebrating the vote and urging them to implement it in full?
