Tanzania: don't dam paradise

To the members of the World Heritage Committee and the government of Tanzania:

As citizens deeply concerned with the preservation of our planet's precious biodiversity, we call on you to immediately cancel plans to build the Stiegler Gorge dam in the Selous reserve. We need to protect more wild spaces, not destroy them, and once treasures like the Selous are destroyed, we've lost them forever.

Tanzania: don't dam paradise
Imagine a wildlife heaven the size of Switzerland, a place elephants, cheetahs, and giraffes roam free…Now imagine the Tanzanian government sticking an enormous hydroelectric dam right in the middle of it!

That’s exactly what’s happening in the magnificent Selous reserve, a place already “in danger” because of catastrophic poaching. But with the annual summit of the World Heritage Committee just days away, we’ve got a chance to build a massive outcry and stop them from damming paradise.

The Committee has a lot of credibility, and has pressured Tanzania about the park before. With the force of a giant global campaign putting this story front and centre, they could do it again! When a million of us sign, Avaaz will deliver our petition to the meeting in style with a colorful parade of animals endangered by the decision — sign and share around the world.
