Dear Home Secretary

"Asylum seekers and refugees are not to blame for Britain’s problems.

Instead of normalising the words of the far right, we ask you to look inward and fix the gaping holes of inequality that we see tearing through Britain.

Recall these dehumanising new asylum reforms. NOW."

Dear Home Secretary
This week, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced reforms that would rip apart asylum protection in our country. Entire families could be left with no support, no protection, no future.

Even Farage likes it.

If these reforms pass, the government could seize personal belongings to pay for accommodation, including jewellery, as if families fleeing danger were arriving in luxury. It’s performative cruelty, and it’s dehumanising.

At a time when millions are struggling through a cost of living crisis, Labour has decided to punish people seeking safety rather than making the super rich paying their fair share. But trying to placate the far right will never be enough, it will only backfire.

There’s still time for Labour MPs to change course. The government is consulting on the budget, which will be announced in just eight days. Let's show that the British public will not stand by while basic compassion is dismantled. Sign and share now:
