To President Dilma Rousseff :

We call on you to take immediate action to save Brazil's precious forests by vetoing the Forestry Code. We also urge you to prevent further murders of environmental activists and workers by increasing law enforcement against illegal loggers and ramping up protection for people at risk from violence or death. Dilma's Wake-Up Call

The Brazilian Congress has just passed a bill that gives loggers and farmers free rein to cut down huge swaths of the Amazon. President Dilma now faces a choice: sign the Amazon’s death sentence -- or veto it. We can make sure she strikes down this catastrophic bill.

Shockingly, the new law grants total amnesty to those who have committed illegal deforestation in the past, while allowing farmers to chop down more of the Amazon than has been possible in the last 50 years. The Congress is blatantly captured by the powerful agribusiness lobby, but the bill has one last hurdle to clear: President Dilma's veto power. She is just months away from hosting the world’s biggest climate summit, and she cannot afford to be pinned as anti-environment right now. We can force her to veto this bill by putting her squarely under the international spotlight!

Brazilians know the the fate of the Amazon is dangling by a thread -- and they have died fighting against the lobbies who are pushing with all their might to pass this bill. Now, with President Dilma so vulnerable to public pressure, we can bring the force of Avaaz to their struggle and win! Let's stand with Brazil's brave indigenous activists and build a 2 million-strong global call to Dilma to stop the new Forestry Code -- sign the urgent petition now.
