To the French and Belgian governments :

Every IUD in that warehouse represents a woman whose life you could change. Burning a supply of almost $10 million is an affront to women everywhere.

As global citizens, we urge you to prevent their destruction and work with the organisations who have already stepped up to purchase, repackage and distribute them.

Right now, there are $9.7 million worth of contraceptives sitting in a warehouse in Belgium - and Donald Trump is trying to ship them to France - just to have them destroyed.

Contraceptives have liberated women all over the world to be able to choose the outcome of their own lives. It’s allowed more women to enter into education, to have sexual autonomy and given them greater economic power.

And this is where two of Donald Trump’s obsessions meet: his reckless, dogmatic obsession with destroying the US’ foreign aid programs, and his misogynistic hostility to women’s reproductive health.

Health organisations have offered to buy, repackage and distribute these contraceptives - but the Trump administration threw out their requests. The contraceptives could be destroyed any day now.

That’s why we must act now and put huge amounts of public pressure on the Belgian and French governments to act - and prevent the destruction.
