China: end animal abuse

To the President of China Xi jinping and Environment Minister Zhou Shengxian:

As citizens concerned about the welfare of animals, we call on you to immediately enact regulations prohibiting the sale of animals confined to plastic bags. These animals suffer a slow and inhumane death for the sake of fashion and the trade of these products must be outlawed. We further urge you to draft and implement animal welfare legislation to ensure all animals in China are safe from abuse. You have the power to end the cruel and inhumane treatment of animals and we demand you take action now.

China: end animal abuse
Thousands of baby turtles, goldfish and salamanders are being sealed alive inside tiny keyrings and sold on the streets of China. They gradually suffocate and die while dangling off people’s smart phones and keys. It’s a totally crazy example of the serious cruelty against animals in China -- but the tide is starting to turn.

China only has a law to protect wild animals, but a movement is growing to stop cruelty against all animals and amazingly Chinese authorities are listening! Just last month a mass outcry helped shut down a major circus that trained animals with fear and now we can help put an end to animal cruelty by raising our voices.

When we reach 1 million, Avaaz will work with groups in China to launch major adverts pressuring the government into action. Sign now and share this with everyone.
