Dear Avaaz family,
I write with good news, at a time of danger for my people.
We are still under violent attack from the government of Tanzania. First they poisoned the water and killed our animals. Then they came for us.
I was there when they shot our Maasai mothers to the ground. We ran for our lives.
But thanks to Avaaz, I was also there when Maasai elders stood in court, fighting for our rightful claim as the guardians of these lands. We're being persecuted to make way for luxury safaris and trophy hunting -- evicted from the home we've cherished for centuries.
With your support, we built a rock-solid case against the government. Our ancient wisdom of the grasslands, supported by hard evidence and satellite mapping… we were formidable.
But there are many battles ahead, two more Maasai communities are being targeted, and we need your support again. With enough funding, Avaaz could:
- Power the Maasai legal defence, supporting research, evidence-gathering, and a bold legal team to stop all evictions and free those being illegally detained;
- Support Indigenous communities fighting to block a monstrous oil pipeline tearing through East Africa;
- Support the uprising of Amazon Indigenous leaders to defend the rainforest from loggers, miners, and mega cattle farms.
- Launch urgent Avaaz campaigns to win and protect Indigenous rights and the balance of life on Earth.
