Yet Britain has a dark side when it comes to horse racing: just last year, 598 horses were sent to slaughter – all from the racing industry. Most of those horses were aged 5 or younger.
This is urgent. Since the Cheltenham races just ended – hundreds more could be sent to slaughterhouses and murdered for their flesh any day.
Here’s how we fix it:
The Minister of State for Food Security and Rural Affairs can stop the slaughter of horses by enacting these three simple steps:
- Close all horse abattoirs in the UK
- Ensure no horses are transported for slaughter outside of the UK
- Support horses so they can be properly rehabilitated after the trauma of racing
