End the slaughter of horses!

Steve Reed OBE Minister of State for Food Security and Rural Affairs :

“In England last year, 598 horses from the racing industry were sent to slaughter. In the aftermath of the Cheltenham races, hundreds more could be slaughtered in the coming weeks on your watch. We call on you to protect horses and prevent their slaughter by:
  1. Close all horse abattoirs in the UK
  2. Ensure no horses are transported for slaughter outside of the UK
  3. Support horses so they can be properly rehabilitated after the trauma of racing

End the slaughter of horses!
Horses are highly sentient and intelligent beings – and have been loyal companions to humans since the dawn of history.

Yet Britain has a dark side when it comes to horse racing: just last year, 598 horses were sent to slaughter – all from the racing industry. Most of those horses were aged 5 or younger.

This is urgent. Since the Cheltenham races just ended – hundreds more could be sent to slaughterhouses and murdered for their flesh any day.

Here’s how we fix it:

The Minister of State for Food Security and Rural Affairs can stop the slaughter of horses by enacting these three simple steps:
  1. Close all horse abattoirs in the UK
  2. Ensure no horses are transported for slaughter outside of the UK
  3. Support horses so they can be properly rehabilitated after the trauma of racing
