Football can unite the world, but racism scars the beautiful game. Sepp Blatter, the head of FIFA, has made outrageously shortsighted remarks about racism, saying that a handshake after a match is the way to deal with this prejudice. A global uproar has descended, but he has declared that he will not quit. Let’s call on FIFA’s sponsors to demand that he goes -- for the good of the game!

Racism can’t be tolerated and is a crime in most countries. Blatter -- long accused of corruption -- is stubborn, and his cronies at FIFA won’t ask him to leave his cushy position. But sponsors like Adidas, Visa, Sony, Kia and Coca-Cola have said they’re doing little more than “watching the situation” as it progresses. If we let them know now that they must oust Blatter or ditch their links to FIFA, we can push them to make a difference.

Everyday that Blatter is allowed to stay in power is another blow to the fight against racism.
