First it emerged that UK development minister Priti Patel had met Israeli politicians -- including the Prime Minister -- without telling the Foreign Office. Then that she’d lied about it. Now it’s just emerged that she wanted to send UK aid money to the Israeli army.

Worse still, the money would have used been to fund Israeli operations in the Golan Heights: an area Israel occupies illegally, directly undermining the UK’s longstanding refusal to recognise Israel’s presence there.

Enough’s enough: it’s time for Theresa May to fire Priti Patel. The Department for International Development used to be globally respected -- now Patel’s just using it to run her own private foreign policy.
