It happens too often: women survive atrocities but suffer silently, invisibly. No one hears about it, and no one can offer even the prospect of justice.
We can help change that by standing with the 120,000 women in Tigray, Ethiopia who were raped and tortured by soldiers.
In part, we can bear witness – even though it’s hard – and know this for what it is: a systematic campaign to end Tigrayan births. In a new bombshell report, experts even say it could be genocide.
But we can also help bring justice. In 2022, the UN and the African Union froze their investigations because the Ethiopian government promised it would do the work.
It hasn’t.
So now survivors are demanding that the international community restart independent investigations.
If we build a massive wave of global publicity and push for meetings directly with survivors we can pressure UN and AU officials to stop stalling and start investigating. It’s worked for us before, now let’s step up again!
