My name is Sanaa. My brother Alaa Abd el-Fattah has spent more than eight years in jail, away from his family and young son. He is now 40. Alaa has a kind heart and is a loving father. His son misses him; I miss him, and my whole family longs to hold him again. We fear for his life.

But there is a chance to save him. Egypt is hosting the most critical UN climate summit of 2022, and that’s already putting a spotlight on President Al-Sisi because world leaders have the chance to help negotiate Alaa’s release. Egypt is organising this summit as if it was the world cup. A PR scandal about human rights violations is not a risk they are willing to take when they also need more funding and business deals from key countries.

I have already met with many politicians asking for his release, and people have offered a helping hand, but it has not yet been enough. I genuinely believe that a huge global outcry now can push leaders to save Alaa from dying and bring him home safe to us. Join my call.
