Turkey: Free Taner
To President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish government:
As global citizens, deeply concerned by the arrest of Taner Kılıç, we demand his immediate and unconditional release. Taner is a principled human rights lawyer with an established history of defending the rights and freedoms of others in Turkey. The charges brought against him and claims that he is a member of the Gülen movement, an organisation he has criticised amply, are absurd. Blanket accusations and imprisonment of innocent people with no ties to the coup are destroying the social fabric of the country and the faith in Turkey's justice system. They need to stop.

They have now arrested Amnesty International’s country chair and prominent human rights lawyer, Taner Kılıç. And, he’s being charged with "membership in a terrorist organization” because he allegedly used a phone messaging app that was also used by the July coup-plotters.
It's outrageous and it has got to stop.
Taner’s lawyers have just submitted an appeal to release him, but the authorities are showing no signs of budging. But, if we make big noise about this now, and work together with our friends at Amnesty to stage protests around Turkish embassies worldwide, we can show the Turkish government that this won’t be swept under the carpet easily. Join the call for his release and then share it widely.
