Bill Gates: break free from big oil
To Bill Gates, founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation:
You have made a huge contribution to human progress and equality. Yet investments in fossil fuels are putting this progress at great risk. In this time of climate crisis, it is morally and financially misguided to invest in companies dedicated to finding and burning more oil, gas and coal. Many philanthropic organisations are divesting from fossil fuels. We ask you to do the same.

Gates is worth $83 Billion. That's larger than the national income of 130 countries! Gates has billions invested in big oil and coal, but he of all people should know better -- he's also spent billions on lifting people out of poverty, and climate change is one of the biggest drivers of poverty in the world today.
If Gates pulled his fortune out of fossil fuels, it would send a massive and urgently needed signal to both investors and politicians that the days of dirty energy are numbered.
The Guardian has launched a campaign calling on Gates to divest and he's personally engaging with it, but not persuaded yet. 160,000 people have joined the campaign so far, but our community could multiply this call tenfold. Let's get Bill Gates to break free from big oil!
