Parliament: stop TV censorship!

To the members of the "Commissione Parlamentare di Vigilanza":

We urge you to reject the draft “Guiding Act on Pluralism” and all regulations which limit television reports on issues of public interest and undermine the independence of television journalists. Our Constitution protects freedom of information and the press, and these principles must be upheld to preserve our democracy and defend the public good.

Parliament: stop TV censorship!

In 24 hours Parliament will vote on new rules that threaten the independence of public television journalism and undermine press freedom in Italy.

Championed by one of Berlusconi’s loyal MPs, the proposed measures seek to end public TV journalistic investigations against corruption and misgovernment and enable political parties to control information. We helped defeat the “bavaglio” law last year. Now only a colossal public outcry can stop this new attack on our media and its critical role as guardian of our democracy.

Let's urgently build a massive petition for press freedom ahead of the crucial vote: Avaaz and its partners will deliver it to the media and directly to key MPs of the "Commissione di vigilanza" as they enter the final debate. Sign now and forward the petition to everyone. Together we can win again!
