Stop Exxon's oil bomb

To the head of Guyana’s Environmental Protection Agency Khemraj Parsram, the president of Guyana Irfaan Ali and Exxon CEO Darren Woods:

As concerned global citizens, we urgently call on you to do all you can to cancel all current and planned oil and gas exploration and production in Guyana. Exxon’s investment is a bad deal for the people of Guyana. It is turning the country from a carbon sink to a carbon bomb, threatening precious biodiversity hotspots of the Caribbean. This seriously undermines Guyana’s commitment to going 100% renewable under the Paris Agreement.

Stop Exxon's oil bomb
It’s the David vs. Goliath story again.

Brave environmental defenders are challenging oil giant Exxon’s plans to pump 10 billion barrels of oil, and trillions of cubic feet of gas from the pristine coastal waters of Guyana.

It threatens to transform the tiny Caribbean country into a massive planet-warming carbon bomb. And the deal signed with the government gives Exxon almost a blank cheque to rake in record money, while sparing the company from meeting safety standards.

The drilling has already started, but in days the Guyanese environmental agency must decide on granting a new permit. Local leaders are calling on our global community to help them supercharge their media and legal efforts to defuse Exxon’s oil bomb. They say that with the force of a million voices and the support of our team, they have a chance.
