Hands off this Himalayan snow leopard home!

To Kishor Subedi and Sreelal Chapagain of Shangri-La Urja Pvt Ltd; the CEO of White Flower Energy Pvt Ltd; and the Nepal government:

Hydropower activities on the Chhujung river threaten one of Earth's last pristine places and its endangered snow leopards, red pandas and blue sheep, as well as infringing on Indigenous rights. As people from around the world, we urge you to honour the Lungba Samba protected status, as legislated by Indigenous lawmakers. Shangri-La and White Flower: stop your plans for hydropower on the Chhujung river now!

Hands off this Himalayan snow leopard home!
Tucked away in the eastern corner of Nepal, high in the Himalayas, lies a habitat that’s a sanctuary to snow leopards, red pandas, and blue sheep. There are no roads, and five years ago, the Avaaz community stood with the local Indigenous people to protect this untouched landscape.

But now two shady hydropower companies want to put all this at risk.

The local community calls them the ‘mafia’ – they’ve brought in heavy machinery, forged documents, and an appetite to turn the wild Chhujung river that nourishes the snow leopards’ home into profit. Their workers even started killing wild animals for bushmeat!

The Indigenous stewards of these highlands are taking this hydro ‘mafia’ to court, and they’re asking our community to join this fight. The case is barely making the news, a huge global call could show the CEOs as well as the judges examining the case that the world is watching.
