Hands off this snow leopard sanctuary!

To Kishor Subedi and Sreelal Chapagain of Shangri-La Urja Pvt Ltd; the CEO of White Flower Energy Pvt Ltd; and the Nepal government:

Hydropower activities on the Chhujung river threaten one of Earth's last pristine places and its endangered snow leopards, red pandas and blue sheep, as well as infringing on Indigenous rights. As people from around the world, we urge you to honour the Lungba Samba protected status, as legislated by Indigenous lawmakers. Shangri-La and White Flower: stop your plans for hydropower on the Chhujung river now!

Hands off this snow leopard sanctuary!

There are only a few thousand of them left, and they’re so rare to spot that people call them ‘ghost cats’.

Snow leopards inhabit some of Earth’s most remote landscapes – and now two profit-hungry companies are putting their home in Nepal at risk.

These hydropower companies have already harassed the local community, tried to build an illegal road, and allowed workers to kill wild animals for bushmeat. Now they want to dam a river, a move that would devastate countless vulnerable species and the Indigenous communities who serve as guardians of the region.

We can’t let that happen – Avaazers helped protect this spot just five years ago! The local community is taking these corporate bullies to court, and they are urgently asking for a global spotlight on their fight for the snow leopards, blue sheep, red pandas and their own people and culture. The case just made the Nepali front pages, and Leonardo DiCaprio shared, let's make it even bigger now.
