Take the Taliban to court!

To Australia, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands:

The Taliban is trying to erase Afghan women. Imagine not being allowed to talk, laugh or sing. Imagine being a prisoner in your own home. Imagine life passing you by. That’s the daily reality of millions of women and girls. Last year you vowed to take steps toward holding Afghanistan accountable for its relentless women’s rights abuses, possibly even at the world’s top court. One year on, we remember the promise you made and urge you to take all necessary steps towards justice.

Take the Taliban to court!
They took me to a public place, covered my head, and whipped me in front of everyone”.

What did Deeba* do to deserve that? Sat at a cafe, charged her phone, and grabbed a sandwich. The ‘crime’? Being out of the house without a male chaperone. That got her 25 bloody lashes.

Millions of women and girls are at the mercy of the crushing Taliban regime. Those who disobey are jailed, whipped, and can even be stoned to death.

All that is why last year Australia, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands promised to confront the Taliban, and maybe even file a case in the World Court. This could help give Afghan women back some of their dignity, and offer them urgent protection!

But one year on, we haven’t seen much action. Sign and share now! We’ll make some noise on the anniversary of the promise – taking our voices straight to top decision-makers and calling on them to keep their word!
