To EU Member States, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen:

As citizens from the EU and around the world, we are alarmed by Israel’s latest decision and ongoing violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. Aggression and violations of international law must not be rewarded. The EU must immediately review and freeze the EU–Israel Association Agreement, and institute sanctions on Israel if the plan to expand control over the occupied West Bank is not rescinded.

Sixty-year-old Sobhi has tended his olive trees since he was a child. He nurtured them as the wall went up, and as settlements spread across the hills. He harvested them as Israel murdered Palestinians in Gaza.

Some of these trees have stood tall for centuries – but they may not survive Israel’s new de facto annexation policy, which threatens to take up to 60% of the West Bank from families like Sobhi's.

The plan threatens to tear families from their land to make way for illegal settlements, cut off farmers from their fields, and force residents to pass through checkpoints and roadblocks just to reach their neighbors.

This is not right, and Sobhi will not abandon his trees – but he needs the world to stand with him.

Europe has the leverage to make this illegal policy very costly for Israel – by following on warnings that its economic agreement with Israel could be reconsidered if human-rights obligations under the deal are breached.

Add your name to urge Europe to freeze their partnership with Israel now – and move towards sanctions if Israel does not end this illegal policy of dispossession that tears Palestinians from their lands.
