Is a husband allowed to force his wife to have sex with him? That’s not a crime in India, where marital rape is still legal.

The government’s latest survey suggests over 10 million women have survived sexual violence from their spouse – and experts believe its legality means marital rape it’s vastly undercounted.

India just enacted a new criminal code to replace the one inherited from British colonial rule, and the government still chose to protect abusive traditions over women’s bodies and rights.

But Indian women are fighting back, and we can help them win. They’ve already taken their case to the Supreme Court.
