There’s a military guard assigned to each Indigenous village in Merauke - put there to intimidate Indigenous Papuans into silence as they watch their land and their future slip away.

But they are fighting back anyway - risking their lives to resist the government’s violent megadeforestation project, which will impact 50,000 Indigenous people, damage rare habitats, and release a staggering billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere.

Let’s honor their courage with a global avalanche of voices demanding that the government respect their rights- Indonesian leaders have worked hard to build an environmentally friendly image abroad, and our partners say a million voices demanding answers about the project could cause them to back off.
