To the Global Environment Facility, International Financial Institutions and all governments:

We call on you to secure strong funding for Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs) across the planet, including by adopting the proposed Global Biodiversity Framework Fund 20% aspirational goal to IPLCs and to ensure all climate and biodiversity finance have earmarked amounts to such communities, ensuring their direct access to finance with full respect to their rights.

A lifeline to the planet's defenders
No matter where you are on the planet, there is an Indigenous community protecting a forest, a river, a species for you, for all of us.

Their livelihoods, cultures and conservation practices have kept nature standing for millennia -- from tropical forests, to the deserts and the arctic -- they protect 80% of all remaining biodiversity.

They're now facing a serious challenge: in a world ruled by money, without funds to secure their territories, restore the land and fight off invaders, they can't continue protecting life on Earth!

In days, the world's richest nations will meet to potentially adopt a new fund to protect biodiversity and could allocate as much as 20% of it for Indigenous peoples. This is a lifeline for them -- and for the planet. We need to win this.
