We call on you to fast-track direct-to-cell satellite service for Iran, allowing people to document atrocities and reconnect with the world during a total blackout. We also urge governments, most urgently the US treasury, to issue clear guidance confirming that this humanitarian activation is permitted under existing sanctions law – removing legal barriers that prevent life-saving action. This is a matter of human rights and lives. The people of Iran need your boldest moral leadership, now.

I haven’t been able to reach my family in Iran for two weeks – and I am terrified.

The regime has sealed the country in a near-total blackout, and the few reports escaping have chilled me to my core: 2,500 protesters murdered, torture, with mass executions coming next.

But we can break this blackout. New satellite technology can reconnect people with the phones they already have – if the US and others push to activate it now.

This will reconnect families like mine, let Iranians speak to the world in their own voice, and allow citizens and rights groups to document the regime’s horrific crimes.
