Iraq: no child brides!

To Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi and members of Iraq’s Parliament:

As concerned citizens from across the world, we strongly urge you to reject the catastrophic amendments to the personal status law which would allow religious clerics to govern marriage contracts. This shameful measure will push Iraq several steps backwards. We call on you to stand on the right side of history and work towards greater protection and rights for women -- not less.

Iraq: no child brides!
In days, Iraq could change their constitution to allow girls as young as NINE YEARS OLD to be married. Instead of doing 4th grade homework and playing with friends -- Iraqi girls could be forced to marry men twice or three times their age!

It’s heartbreaking to even imagine -- but we have a way to stop it.

The Iraqi government relies heavily on foreign support and needs to appear competent and forward-thinking as they build those relations. If we raise a huge outcry and push Iraq’s terrible plan in the global spotlight, we can force them to back off.

The vote could happen in days. Add your name, and a friendly MP will deliver our call directly inside parliament.
