Jeff Bezos: stop drying out our rivers!
To Jeff Bezos:
Our drinking water is more valuable than your machines!
It’s been reported that existing data center emissions are likely 662% higher than Big Tech companies like yours claim. You must halt the building of new data centres until you can ensure that your existing datacentres are sustainable.
We, the Avaaz community, stand shoulder to shoulder with local communities in Northeast Spain and call on you to halt the expansion of your datacentres now!

As we stream at home, taps in Aragon are running dry. When droughts hit, water restrictions are placed on households and farmers are unable to water their crops.
Datacentres are rows and rows of servers, and they power the data we consume every day. Amazon owns by far the most across the world and they use copious amounts of water. They’re licensed to use an estimated 755,720 cubic metres of water a year, which would be enough to water 576 acres of corn, one of the region’s main crops.
Last month, Aragon’s government asked for EU aid to tackle its drought, yet Amazon has asked the regional government to increase water consumption at their existing local sites by 48%.
But no amount of water will quench Jeff Bezos’ thirst. Now, he’s trying to open three new datacentres in the region and expanding in Europe too.
We could be next. That’s why we must stand shoulder to shoulder with local communities to prevent these centres from being built. Will you sign and help make this petition HUGE?
