Stand with the Jerico 11
To the National Mining Agency and the Attorney General’s Office :
We, citizens of the world, call on you to stop criminalising peaceful protest and to end the persecution of farmers in Colombia who are bravely and peacefully defending their water and land. We urge you to reconsider the charges against the “Jerico 11” and to reject the requested extension of AngloGold Ashanti’s exploration license in the town. This case must be considered within the broader context of socio-environmental conflict, as outlined in the Escazu Agreement.

He and ten fellow farmers are being prosecuted for resisting a massive mining project that threatens to destroy their mountain, their rivers, and their way of life in their small town of Jerico, in Colombia. A judge has already denied putting them under house arrest – but the trial continues, and if they’re found guilty, they could go to prison – setting a dangerous precedent for peaceful protest.
That’s where we come in. The lawyers representing the Jericó 11 say that with massive public pressure, our movement can help push the authorities – who are sensitive to human rights scrutiny and public mobilization – to reconsider the charges and reject the company’s license to keep exploring in Don Porfirio’s town, with a decision expected as soon as December.
We have a few weeks to act! Let’s be a million voices rising for Don Porfirio and his community, and we’ll carry this call straight to the Attorney General and the Mining Agency. Add your name now!
