Stand with the Jerico 11

To the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the National Mining Agency in Colombia:

We, citizens of the world, call on you to reject the extension of AngloGold Ashanti’s exploration permit in Jerico, Colombia, a project that threatens vital ecosystems and the rights of local communities. This permission must not be granted to a company that has responded to peaceful protest with persecution, pressing charges of kidnapping and theft against 11 farmers who bravely defended their water and land.

Stand with the Jerico 11
86-year-old Don Porfirio loves opera, grows coffee – and might be on his way to jail for standing up to a massive mining giant!

The company is threatening to contaminate his town’s clean rivers with 120 million tons of toxic waste – and they’re trying to ruthlessly silence farmers like Don Porfirio for trying to defend their community from being poisoned.

Our voices can help these brave farmers hold the line against the mining giant – and even shut the project down for good.

Colombia’s National Mining Agency can stop the mine in its tracks by denying a permit they need to continue – they just denied one request from the company, and local activists say a global outcry can help push them to reject this one too.

We have only weeks to act: December 8 is the deadline for the permit. Sign now – and when our call is massive, we’ll flood his office with Jericó coffee beans – one for every Avaazer standing with these brave farmers.
