Jersey is trying to get away with limited implementation of the G8's tax transparency reforms. I worked in Jersey’s government, and know a deluge of messages from across the UK will surprise them. Write what you feel about tax dodging, and draw from the points below. Hurry - today's the deadline for their official consultation!

TALKING POINTS:
  • It’s wrong that billions which could be spent on public services are being hidden by corporations and trusts in Jersey and other tax havens.
  • To fight tax evasion, you must implement a central public register of who owns and benefits from all the huge number of companies and trusts registered in Jersey. This must be public -- many scandals show we can’t trust government to regulate finance.
  • David Cameron said he hopes that ‘the whole world will move towards public registers of beneficial ownership’. The UK has introduced a public register and Jersey must urgently follow suit.

  • The official Jersey consultation document is here.
