Save Kenya's ban on GMOs
To Kenyan President William Ruto, the Cabinet Secretaries of the Agriculture and Health Ministries, Mithika Linturi and Susan Wafula, and all Members of Parliament in Kenya:
As global citizens, we call on you to reinstate the ban on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) without delay. We also call on you to work with farmers and the agricultural sector to enhance food safety, and guarantee meaningful public participation in any decisions impacting Kenyan citizens' food choices. The only way to ensure food security is to empower communities, not corporations.

Against a backdrop of US lobbying, the newly-elected Kenyan president hurriedly lifted a decade-old ban on genetically modified crops, putting the future of farmers, biodiversity, and food security at risk in Kenya and beyond. Farmers, lawyers, consumer groups, and even neighbouring Uganda are crying foul: they're challenging the government in court and have won a temporary injunction. But to make sure GMOs won't enter their country and destroy local agriculture, they need to win over the public.
That's where we come in: another hearing is happening in days – with a massive global call, we can put pressure on Kenya's image-conscious leader William Ruto, supercharge the local movement's media work, and connect lawyers with global scientific experts. Join now & share widely!
