A People's Twitter
To Elon Musk :
We believe, like you, that social media needs to be fixed. But we don’t believe that you have all the answers. In your effort to create social media that serves humanity, you are accountable to us: users and citizens. To truly make Twitter a broadly trusted and maximally inclusive platform, we call on you to make a legally binding pledge not to personally interfere in Twitter’s editorial decisions, deliver on your promises to make Twitter’s algorithm public and remove bots from the platform, and ensure that all users can have a voice on Twitter by banning disinformation, hate and violent threats.

From the Arab Spring to the #MeToo movements, to elections in Brazil and the US -- what happens on Twitter already impacts the lives of billions of people. Unless we speak out now, calling on Elon Musk to ensure Twitter users are respected and heard, the digital public square is at risk.
Musk says he wants to make changes to the platform, like making its systems more transparent -- and that's good. But we need guarantees that his changes won’t hurt free speech, and that he won’t allow disinformation, hate and harassment to run wild on the platform.
Insiders say he's open to hear from experts -- and 1 million signatures backing the call for a People's Twitter could ensure any changes will make the platform serve humanity, not hinder it.
Add your name now -- let's call on Elon Musk to make Twitter better by listening to its users!
