Mexico: No to 'green' fracking

To the members of Mexico's scientific committee on fracking:

As citizens from across the world, we urge you to reject the myth of 'green fracking.' Mexican farming and Indigenous communities have lived through the devastation fracking brings -- dried rivers, poisoned water, ruined land. No new label changes the fundamental harm. We call on you to stand with the evidence, stand with the people, and refuse to give fracking a green stamp.

Mexico: No to 'green' fracking
“The trees dried up. The land stopped producing. The water disappeared – and what was left became contaminated.”

That’s how farmers in Mexico describe what happened after fracking reached their communities.

For years, Mexicans fought fiercely against fracking – pushing it close to a nationwide ban. But now fossil fuel interests are trying to revive it with a dangerous new label: “green fracking.”

In 2 weeks, a scientific committee will decide whether to endorse this myth. If they do, fracking companies could use Mexico as proof that this water-guzzling, toxic industry is “green”.

But we can help stop this poisonous lie in its tracks: sign now to stand with communities who know the truth about fracking firsthand.

When our call is massive, we’ll flood the committee with pressure to stand up to fossil interests and reject “green fracking” before it opens the door to more devastation in Mexico and across the world:
