To all opposition parties in Turkey::

As concerned citizens, we call on you to stand strong for human rights and say no to the return of death penalty. Our country is yet to mourn the dead after the failed coup-attempt on Friday, and threatening to reinstate the death penalty will only add further insult to injury, empower the angry mobs and violate the same values of democracy and respect for the will of people that united us on Friday against the attempted coup. Abolishing the death penalty took the blood, sweat and tears of so many people -- reinstating it would be as far a cry from democracy and rule of law as it could get.

290 dead, thousands injured, a parliament bombed, and a whole nation terrorised — that was the nightmare that the entire country had to live on Friday.

But, while we still mourn the dead, the government is engaging in a cruel purge and it wants to reinstate the death penalty! Thousands of prosecutors, judges, police and university deans have already been arrested and fired for their alleged role in the coup in the last 4 days!

It all seems like it’s spiralling out of control, but together we can stop this and let the cool heads prevail.

Let’s all come united as one to voice a loud and clear NOT IN MY NAME to the return of death penalty. When we reach 50,000 signatures — we will deliver it directly to the opposition parties. Sign the urgent petition now and then share with everyone... everywhere.
