At the end of the year, I want to know: did Avaaz make a difference? Where? For who?

If people like you around the world took action or made a donation, what did it do?

Because if we didn’t make a difference in real places, in real ways, for real people then we shouldn’t exist. Period.

So here's what I know for sure:

Together, we gave 2.1 million dollars to save lives in Sudan. What did that money do? It went directly to local community kitchens and medics. These 'Emergency Response Rooms' delivered food, medicine, and shelter for 300,000 people living through the worst humanitarian crisis in the world right now.

I can tell you -- and I deeply hope you believe -- that there are people alive today because of our help. That is a fact.

When women from Afghanistan were being hunted by the Taliban, because they dared to fight for their education and their freedom, it was Avaaz members who lobbied the Brazilian government to secure their asylum. Avaaz members who paid for their flights, visas, and safe houses. So far 65 people who thought there was no way out are now safe.

Our coordinator told me that one woman felt so trapped, she thought her only way out was to end her life. Now she is building a new life. Avaaz members did that.

Our latest news is that we just secured more than 2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest that will be going back into the hands of Indigenous communities in Brazil -- in large part because as a community, we refused to take no for an answer.
