Turkey: Scrap the "Marry Your Rapist" law now

Turkish Parliament and President Erdoğan:

As citizens from around the world, we are deeply distressed by the idea that a new bill in Turkey could force girls to marry their rapists. We call on you to immediately drop any intention of voting such a law that could legitimise rape, and to instead, pass comprehensive legislation addressing violence against girls and women.

Turkey: Scrap the "Marry Your Rapist" law now
This is sickening — lawmakers in Turkey could bring back a law that would allow child rapists escape justice by marrying their victims.

That’s right — instead of going to prison, child abusers and pedophiles could instead wed little girls as young as 12, whom they ruthlessly violated.

Last time this law was proposed, an international solidarity campaign helped the activists on the ground, and the law was defeated. And now, brave women’s rights groups are vowing to march in droves to the Parliament to stop this disgusting piece of legislation -- and they urgently need us again.

If enough of us join now, Avaaz will work with our Turkish sisters to send this law back to where it belongs — in the grave, by plastering ads everywhere, running polls and helping mobilise the public so that the Turkish Parliament feels the heat. Sign now and share with everyone.
