Freedom of speech in Indonesia is failing.

Daniel loves nature, art, and teaching. But he is facing a prison sentence for the “crime” of speaking out against pollution.

Police detained him because he posed online about the massive pollution caused by huge shrimp farms in a national park. Since the farms were built, coral reefs have suffered, drinking water has become polluted, and local crops have failed.

Daniel is behind bars simply for defending the environment. This is terrible for Daniel but also for activists all across Indonesia, who feart they may be the next targets. Local groups are protesting for Daniel’s release, and safeguarding freedom of speech.

We have to act now! The court will sentence Daniel in just a few days! Let’s stand together and let the Indonesian government know we’re watching.
