A brilliant idea to save the rhinos
To the Government of South Africa:
As concerned citizens we urgently call upon you to save rhinos from extinction through a bold national effort to make their horns unsafe for human consumption. So long as Rhino horns are demanded as expensive health products, organized criminals will risk all to get them. Poaching is getting worse, but a new approach where Rhino horns are made toxic is exactly what is needed to stamp out demand once and for all. Private owners are already doing this, and if you take it up nationally, we could save the remaining rhinos for the world and future generations. Together, let’s end rhino poaching permanently.

So far the black market’s appetite for rhino horn has overcome every effort to stem the killing, with elites in Asia snapping up every horn for exorbitant prices to make bogus health remedies.
Rhino horn is made from the same material as our fingernails, and literally does nothing -- positive or negative -- for your health. But what if it wasn’t so harmless?
Veterinarians have found a way to poison the horns that is perfectly safe for the rhinos, but will cause mild sickness if consumed by humans. If South Africa -- where most of the worlds remaining rhinos live -- put this plan into action it could be the trick to rendering the horns worthless and saving the rhinos we have left. But experts say they’ll never do it unless there’s enormous international pressure.
