Before you write, get to know Janet Yellen
Secretary Janet Yellen is a distinguished economist and the first woman to become Treasury Secretary of the United States. As the top government official handling America’s finances she is one of the main economic advisors to President Biden. She grew up in post-WWII Brooklyn with her school-teacher mother and physician father, who treated patients in their family home. Her old colleagues often compare her to Mary Poppins: firm but kind and always prepared. As a founding member of the Climate Leadership Council, Secretary Yellen understands the need to put our economies to work to avert the climate crisis. She recently broke with decades of neoliberal doctrine, calling for a game-changing minimum global tax on companies.
This week, Secretary Yellen's words could influence ongoing negotiations to secure a just and green recovery. When you are ready, craft your own personal message to her!
If you’re sending her a tweet, make sure to include @SecYellen @IMFNews and #JustRecovery so we can keep track of messages.
