Clinton: don't let Abdulhadi al-Khawaja die!
To US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:
We urge you to take all possible measures to ensure that Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, the symbol of Bahrain's peaceful, pro-democracy movement, is unconditionally released, along with all other political prisoners. He has been wrongly accused and tortured, and his daughter detained for crying for his release, and he is now in critical condition after more than 60 days on hunger strike. The US must foster a strong relationship with Bahrain's people, not only the monarchy, in the spirit of the Arab spring.

The US, Bahrain's staunch ally, has urged the regime to respect human rights, but could push much harder to free political prisoners like Abdulhadi, who has become a symbol of the freedom struggle. His daughter was even detained after weeping for her father. If the monarchy fails to release him and he dies, their cruelty will fuel the protests and intensify Bahrain's instability. If enough of us press Secretary Clinton to intercede publicly for Abdulhadi al-Khawaja now, we can tip the balance, help secure his release and move the needle towards democratic reform.
Abdulhadi is on his deathbed now, and there’s no time to waste -- let's urge US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to demand the release of Khawaja and all political prisoners in Bahrain. If we act soon, we can still save Abdulhadi's life and help prevent more senseless violence in Bahrain. Sign the petition now.
