Protect paradise!

To Ecuador’s President, Daniel Noboa Azín, and Vice President María José Pinto:

As citizens from across the world, we call on you to halt the auction of mining concessions in Ecuador's Intag Valley and declare it a permanently protected area. For 30 years, communities have defended these cloud forests, home to species found nowhere else on Earth. Honour their stewardship and safeguard the Intag Valley for future generations.

Protect paradise!
In the Intag Valley, you can hear waterfalls gurgling, birds chirping, and endemic frogs croaking through the mist: these are the cloud forests of the tropical Andes, home to one-sixth of all plant species on the planet.

To defend this paradise, a community from Intag Valley, Ecuador, has been fighting against greedy mining companies for over 30 years. Thanks to their resistance, seven companies have given up on exploiting the land.

But Ecuador’s president is about to auction off the area again to an activity that could poison streams, kill the forest and drive endangered species that exist nowhere else on Earth towards extinction.

People from Intag Valley are now asking for support from the Avaaz community to ensure the safety of the forest now and forever. Let’s stand together to defend paradise – we will pressure President Noboa to stop the auction of the land and declare this area protected for good.
