Ecuador: Protect this living paradise

To Ecuador’s President, Daniel Noboa Azín, and Vice President María José Pinto:

As citizens from across the world, we call on you to immediately halt the auction of mining concessions in Ecuador's Intag Valley and declare it a permanently protected area. For over 30 years, communities have defended these cloud forests, home to species found nowhere else on Earth. Honour their stewardship and safeguard the Intag Valley for future generations.

Ecuador: Protect this living paradise
My name is Hugo Ramírez. I am 43 years old, and live in the Intag Valley in Ecuador. Here, every morning, the sound of water flowing down the mountains mixes with the singing of birds and the croaking of frogs that inhabit this unique forest. This place is not just biodiversity: it is my home.

When I was a child, the resistance against mining began. For 31 years, this fight has been a part of our lives. We have won many times: thanks to community resistance, seven companies have withdrawn from the Intag area.

But now the threat returns. President Noboa is about to auction our lands, and companies could enter the territory within weeks, bringing fear and violence back to our communities, polluting the rivers, destroying the forest, and wiping out species that exist nowhere else on the planet.

I am writing to you because I know that if you could see this place, you would feel the same way I do: this is something worth defending. Please, join us. Together, we can pressure President Noboa to stop this auction and protect the Intag Valley forever.
