WAKE UP DAVID LAMMY: Intervene in hunger strikes to save lives

To Justice Secretary David Lammy:

8 lives are in danger. We call on you to prevent the deaths of protesters on hunger strike. They have not yet stood trial and have had their right to normal bail conditions removed. Some have already been in prison since 2024 and do not have trial dates until next year. This is abnormal and inhumane. You must intervene urgently so that they do not die in the coming days.

WAKE UP DAVID LAMMY: Intervene in hunger strikes to save lives

As you read this, eight young protesters (pictured) who have not yet stood trial are too weak to stand, mouths too ulcerated to speak and are at imminent risk of death.

To put 44 days into perspective, 24 year old Martin Hurson, an IRA hunger striker, died on day 46 of his hunger strike in 1981.

Half of them have been in jail for more than a year for charges related to Palestine Action before they were proscribed as a terrorist organisation.

And yet, they have been denied the normal right to bail, among other basic rights, before trial.

There’s no time to waste - the imminent risk of death increases with every passing day. David Lammy must intervene today:
