Her life hanging by a thread
Ayatollah Sayed ‘Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Republic, and President Hassan Rouhani:
As concerned global citizens, we call on you to use all powers at your disposal to immediatley halt the execution of Reyhaneh Jabbari, and to press for a retrial in proceedings which comply with fair trial standards, without recourse to the death penalty, to investigate allegations that Reyhaneh Jabbari was ill-treated in custody, and to allow the accused access to a lawyer of her own choosing.

A young Iranian woman who fought back against her rapist is now fighting for her life -- and has the notoriously conservative government scrambling. Enough noise right now from all of us could halt the hanging of Rayhaneh Jabbari.
The detention, trial and death sentence given this young woman -- for the murder of a man she says tried to rape her -- have been loudly condemned by rights defenders in Iran and worldwide, and the noise is getting through. Last month her hanging seemed imminent, but then something remarkable happened: when her mother was told to prepare for her hanging, she shared her anguished plea on social media -- and it quickly went viral. A day later, the government postponed the execution.
It’s rare that Iran relents under international pressure, but our community has made it happen before -- our raucous global campaign helped stop the execution by stoning of another woman railroaded by the Iranian courts, Sakineh Ashtiani. Let’s do it again -- sign now and let’s make this petition massive. We'll deliver to Iranian consulates worldwide to save Rayhaneh from the hangman’s noose.
