Save the Greenbelt

To PM Trudeau and Minister of Environment Guilbeault, and to all members of the Parliament of Ontario:

As concerned citizens from across Canada, we call on your Government to take immediate action to protect the largest Greenbelt in the world. We stand with local communities who reject the Ontario government’s plan to destroy 7,400 acres of long-protected lands, and call on you to put it on hold until a full environmental impact study is conducted under the Impact Assessment Act. As we face a climate and biodiversity crisis, Canada must strengthen its laws to shield protected areas from similar plans in the future.

Save the Greenbelt

Wildfires are raging across Canada’s forests – yet the Ontario government is still planning to destroy the Greenbelt across an area the size of 17,000 hockey rinks.

The Greenbelt is one of the most biologically rich protected areas in all of Canada, and this plan would threaten 29 at-risk species just to make way for sprawling housing developments.

The public consultation showed local opposition to the project. And Premier Ford’s government appears to have completely ignored them.

That’s where we come in: The Federal Government has already taken action by freezing its infamous 413 highway project. Now a nationwide outcry could push Ottawa to stop Ford’s plan before it even starts. Add your name now and when it’s massive, we’ll deliver our call straight to the Federal Government and leading media. Sign and share widely now!
