Australia: Save Barrambin (Victoria Park)
To Murray Watt, Minister for the Environment and Water in Australia:
As people from around the world, we are deeply concerned by plans to build Olympic stadiums on Brisbane’s Victoria Park — sacred land of the Yagara and Turrbal peoples and a vital green space. First Nations custodians have requested protection under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act, yet you have not responded. We urge you to act now and prevent the destruction of Barrambin.

Victoria Park (Barrambin) has been a gathering place for First Nations peoples for thousands of years. It’s home to ancient trees, wildlife, and wetlands that help cool the city.
But now, the Queensland government plans to flatten its hills, tear out its trees, and pour concrete over this living heritage for the 2032 Games — even though other, more suitable sites are available that could host the stadiums without destroying this sacred land.
First Nations communities have already submitted a formal request urging the federal Environment Minister to protect Barrambin under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act — but he has remained silent, and every day without action brings the bulldozers closer.
We’re calling on him to break that silence, and protect this sacred site before it’s too late.
If hundreds of thousands of us raise our voices now, we can make it impossible for him to ignore our call. Together with Indigenous leaders and local activists, we’ll deliver our message directly to the Minister to show that the world is watching and that he must respond immediately to protect Barrambin. Sign now.
