This is what defiant hope feels like.

When a shoddily-built train station collapsed and killed 16 people, Serbia’s youth couldn’t accept the endemic corruption that kept their future hostage anymore. They led the biggest protests in their country’s history, and their movement has been unstoppable for months.

They brought hundreds of thousands of people to the streets, and it was epic – imagine a quarter of the biggest city joining the protest!

And when European leaders remained silent as Serbian students were hit with baseball bats and illegal sonic weapons, they just jumped on bikes. They cycled over 1,300km all the way to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, and returned as heroes to the sound of fireworks.

This is our chance to make sure EU leaders hear their voices and condemn the crackdown. Serbia’s historic youth-led protests are a vital reminder that we can always choose hope – that we can be unstoppable together.
