Ban FGM Now

President Julius Bio and all Members of Parliament, Sierra Leone :

As citizens from around the world, we are horrified that the law in Sierra Leone permits cutting off girls’ genitals. We urge you to immediately implement the ruling of the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States, revise the Child Rights Act of 2025, and ban the practice. Protect the girls who haven’t yet been cut!

Ban FGM Now
Kadijatu Allieu was tied up, beaten, blindfolded, and gagged. Then the women who had taken her mutilated her genitals with a razor and left her lying in a pool of blood for three days before she escaped.

She launched a court case, and the judges just ruled that female genital mutilation (FGM) is a form of torture and Sierra Leone must ban it.

Sierra Leone’s President Bio is sympathetic – his government introduced a child rights bill last year that outlaws FGM. He’s said that “the future of Sierra Leone is female” and helped get more women into Parliament.

The only problem? Politicians stripped out all mention of FGM before sending the bill back to him for signature last month.

Survivors and local groups are demanding that President Bio veto the bill if MPs won’t put the ban back in. But standing up to Parliament is costly. He needs a huge outpouring of political support. So sign now and we’ll deliver our call straight to his office, launch hard-hitting ads, and mobilise Sierra Leone’s youth. Sign now.
