France: Stop letting your weapons be used in Darfur
To French President Emmanuel Macron, Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu, and French weapons manufacturers :
Now that French weapons have been found in Darfur in the hands of a genocidal militia that could be using them to commit atrocities, international law and French law require you to suspend arms transfers to the United Arab Emirates. Failure to uphold the UN Security Council arms embargo and your legal obligations would give the UAE carte blanche to keep fuelling the RSF’s war efforts in Darfur, where UN experts warn genocide could be occuring right now.

How did these weapons get there in direct violation of the UN arms embargo? France isn’t involved in this war, and it even hosted a humanitarian conference that raised 2 billion euros for aid in Sudan.
The truth lies elsewhere: the United Arab Emirates have been the top buyer of French arms in the last decade, and they’re fuelling the war in Sudan by smuggling advanced military equipment to a genocidal militia about to win total control of Darfur.
Now that it’s been exposed, France’s government and weapons companies are legally obligated to suspend arms transfers to the UAE. But with literal billions on the line, they’ll probably look for workarounds and excuses. That’s why we need to double down: sign and share now, and when it’s massive we’ll unleash a media storm to show them the scandal isn’t going away.
